Ruth was born in Covington, Kentucky. She was an aspiring artist and dreamed all her life of working for Walt Disney. When she was 20 years old she packed her car, left Kentucky in her rear view mirror and drove across the country to Hollywood, California. She tried to gain employment at Disney Studios but the field she pursued was dominated by men. She started working for NBC studios as a set designer instead. Later in life she became an alcohol abuse counselor at a Community Service Center in Hollywood, CA. At 46 she returned to college to get her Masters degree in psychology, and passed the state board to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. She moved to Placerville in 1986 where she began setting up her practice on Spring Street. She also started working for the then named Women’s Center. In 1989 she moved to Somerset and continued her practice there until she retired. Ruth moved to Mt. Aukum in 2007 and became a published author. She died peacefully in the company of loving friends. Ruth is survived by her surrogate daughter Mari Stone Wong and her nephew Rick Crisler. No services are scheduled at this time.
