Paul Ewing was born March 29, 1927 in Smithfield, Utah to Matt and Frances Ewing and passed away in Placerville, CA July 23, 2014. Paul’s family moved to Placerville in 1937. He graduated from El Dorado High School with the class of 1945 but left school early, in 1944, to enlist in the Navy during WW II and was later recalled during the Korean Conflict in 1950. Paul married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Pimental, in 1947.
Paul was a man of many talents and held many different jobs over the years. He was a mechanic in the 50’s at a shop called Sierra Motors in Placerville, worked at Aerojet for many years as an engineer tech, bartended for a time, owned Allen’s Market in El Dorado for several years and also worked at Poor Reds. He did whatever it took to take care of his family.
Paul was a volunteer fireman for over 25 years and was one of the first full-time firemen in Placerville attaining the rank of Captain. This was truly his most prized job. He loved it. He cherished the brotherhood firemen have and started a club called The Firehouse Five plus Four many years after he retired from the fire service. The club is still active and has several long standing members.
Paul is survived by his daughters Sheri Zandonella and Paula Green, both from Placerville, his brother John Ewing of Santa Rosa, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia in 1993.
All are invited to a Memorial Service Saturday 8/16/2014 at 1:00 pm, at Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home, 2855 Cold Springs Road, Placerville, CA. Online condolences may be posted at chapelofthepinesfunerals.com.
