It is with great sadness that the patriarch of our family, Stanley James Rice went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 14, 2019, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Mount Aukum, CA.
Stanley was born on November 19, 1943, in Lodi, CA to Alonzo Wilson Rice and Lillian Lorraine Weigum Rice Wheeler.
Stanley was proud that he served as a fireman, specializing in crash rescue while serving in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. He spent 18 months in Libya, North Africa and he told many wonderful stories about his time spent there. When he got out of the military he started as a fireman with the City of Vacaville from 1965-1968, then he lateraled to Vacaville Police Department from 1968-1978 and became their first Motorcycle Police Officer. It was his dream job, riding a new Harley-Davidson for 8 hours a day and getting paid! He had many jobs throughout his life, from picking peaches to surveying, owning his own logging truck, and as a supervisor as vehicle dispatch for the US Postal Service.
He volunteered as a Board of Director with Pioneer Fire Department, Pioneer Lions Club and Green Valley Community Church. He would much rather be able to give help to others than receive help himself. He belonged to Placerville Masonic Lodge #26, Ben Ali Shriners, The Supreme Council of Scottish Rite and Three Forks Grange.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Victoria Rice of Mount Aukum, CA; Daughter, Kathleen Renee Hartshorn (Kirt) Pleasant Grove, Utah, and their children, Kris Hartshorn (Brittany) Spokane, WA, David Hartshorn (Chelsea) Provo, UT, Derek Hartshorn (Jamie) Fairbanks, AK, Kyle Hartshorn, Pleasant Grove, UT, Deanne Altig (John) Fairbanks, AK, Krystal Hartshorn, Glenwood, WV; Son, Stanley James Rice, Jr. (Cathy) River Pines, CA and their children, Samantha Rice, Plymouth, CA, Danielle Rivera (Robby) Wellington, CO, Jessica Rice Fiddletown, CA; Daughter, Dena Michelle Davison (Joshua) Mount Aukum, CA and their child Jack Davison; Sister, Lona Thompson of Lodi, CA; 10 grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren.
