

Steven Heron Gonzales Jr., born January 11th, 1994 in Woodland, CA, passed away at the age of 32 in Sacramento, CA on January 21, 2026. Steven, endearingly referred to as Stevie and Papas, was a beloved father, husband, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. Steven is preceded on his journey by many cherished relatives including his treasured Nana Honeybee and beloved younger brother Daniel. Steven is survived by his 4 children and 3 stepchildren Kovu, Tyberius, Delilah, Nalani, Alexis, David, and Jaxin, his wife Lecia, his parents, Steven and Yvonne, 5 sisters, 5 brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. Steven's memory also lives on through his many cousins, extended family and Tribe.
Steven was known for his great sense of humor and generous smile. He was resourceful, easy-going and optimistic, despite adversities. Steven's presence often guaranteed laughter. Steven loved his children and was greatly admired by his stepchildren, his nieces, and nephews. Steven could be a private person and often kept to himself but contributed to his tribe as an encouraging male figure and traditional knowledge bearer. He was known for his "green thumb" and was adept at picking up new skills. Steven had learned cultural practices such as plant identification, foraging, flintknapping, feather work cordage making, basket-weaving and more through his work for his Tribe. His work and dedication lead him to create items that his children and community can continue to learn from. Steven will be deeply missed by his family, community and friends. A celebration of Steven's life will be held from 1pm-5pm on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the Shingle Springs Rancheria. Steven will forever be missed and in our hearts.
