Thomasina Laura Comyns

Thomasina Laura Comyns passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Deneen (Steve), her son, Stansfield Fries III (Melanie), and five beloved grandchildren.

Laura was born in San Francisco in 1937 and spent most of her life in the Bay Area. She was a graduate of Presentation High School and, in 1956, joined the United States Air Force as a communications specialist, focusing on cryptology. After her service, she completed college and earned a master’s degree in Clinical Social Work and Psychotherapy.

A lifelong learner and early adopter of holistic practices, Laura embraced yoga, transcendental meditation, and mindfulness, modeling these practices in her daily life. She explored a wide range of hobbies, from raw food diets to French classes to dancing lessons, and had an insatiable love of reading. Walking remained one of her passions up until her final days.

Laura shared her life with her lifelong partner, Warren Halperin, and was known for her kind, warm smile, her joyful curiosity, and her ability to live fully in the present.

A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
