It's still hard to believe he is gone. RIP Vern! You are missed!! I'm not sure what has happened to Rocky-He was Vern's buddy-I miss seeing those two together.

I went to Vern when he first moved to EDH.  My last barber in Fresno was an old Navy barber.  I thought I could never replace such a friend.  I was wrong.  Vern was the best.  As he would have said "of course any Marine is better then the best Navy Barber".  He alwasy kept his shop smoke free and I , a non smoker liked the thoughfullness that effort showed.  Of coure we would then go outside after the haircut and visit in those plastic chairs while he smoked and we talked. I can't tell you how much those times ment to me.  I went a bit more often for a haircut just to visit with my friend.  I sat at the closed door of the shop the other day and I was so sad.  I was happy for Vern that he will now be with his beloved wife but sad for us that will miss the fun, and love and gentle way he handeld life.  He is a example to us all.  I just don't have the heart to go looking for a civilian to cut my hair.  Thanks for being the true example of what a man should be

What a shock and great loss. I always looked forward to spending time with Vern and Rocky at his shop. It was always a good time listening to stories of his family, and how proud he was of all of them. May the Master Gunny rest in peace; he will be sorely missed.

I am sorry to say goodbye to a real friend. Everyone who knew Vern liked and respected him. He must have known half the people in El Dorado County and all the bigwigs. We will miss the stories, the jokes, Rocky, everything. 

When my times comes, one of my first stops will be at the little barber shop by the Sea of Glass. Until then, take care, buddy.

My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Vern. I'm so sorry I just heard of his passing today and wish I would have known sooner. I'm honored I had the pleasure of knowing him and his kind ways. He will truly be missed by all. A wonderful man, and as he always said not ex Marine, former Marine.

My wife Renee and just heard of Vern’s passing.  Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.  Vern was my barber for over ten years and I will also miss the stories, jokes, political conversations and of course Rocky.  Renee used to work across the way from the barbershop and he always made a point to say hello with a friendly wave from across the parking lot as if to say, don’t worry I am here.  He always made a point of asking how she was and always showed interest in his customers first.  He was a true patriot that loved his country, family and friends.  We will miss him dearly.

My condolences to family and friends of Vern. I am honored to have known him. Vern was a man's man, one of the funniest guys I have ever known, a true patriot,a lover of life and of his family. I will forever miss his jokes, commentary of his favorite politicians, his stories and his bigger than life personality.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Vern was my barber for over 20 years, and I followed him through his last 3 shops because he was the best. Lori, I met you last month at my usual appointment at the beginning of the month. If you need any help moving things, cleaning anything, don't hesitate to ask. He was a great man and I'm going to miss him.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Lori, Rick and family.  Vern cut my hair for many years and was always very friendly and a true patriot. How quickly time passes.  It seems like yesterday we were all sitting around the table laughing and joking.  I miss your sense of humor and caroles laugh.  Papi in her lap and you by her side.  It seemed that no matter where we were in the world we would always find time to visit, or talk and I will miss those days.  Please kiss dad, mom, larry, and carole for me.

I've known Vern for 17 years. He cut my husband's hair and my son's hair. I work in "The Village" just a few doors up from his shop. I walked by almost daily to say hi and he would proudly talk about Lori and Rickey and Kayla and tell me stories about the things he enjoyed in life and what his latest adventures were. He always had a smile and a wave for everyone and always made me laugh. My dog Mia goes to work with me every day just like Rocky went to work with Vern. Mia loved to stop by and see Rocky (her boyfriend) and get a cookie from Vern. He was a sweet and kind man and I will miss him very much. He touched many, many lives and was loved by all. I loved looking through the pictures and then went through them again as a video, with tears running down my face. So many memories, literally a lifetime.... It was so great to see the smiles of my Aunt and Uncle over the years. I remember that first barber shop in Van Nuys and the boxing work outs in the garage behind the house. I never met Vern, but my son Derek knew him very well from the barber shop and had nothing but admiration and great things to say about Vern. Vern was a friend, a mentor, and a genuine man's man. His passing has left a deep void, but his presence while here was a true gift. May he rest in peace.

For twenty years I was proud to tell all that would listen about my Marine barber and friend Vern. Ruff & tuff on the outside and a real softy on the inside; life had nothing on my friend Vern. He was a good soul and I will miss him greatly.

Vern will be greatly missed! Every night as I left Dr. Leaverton's office I would always stop & say good night. He would show or tell me the things Rocky did. He loved that dog. We moved to Southern Calif 3 yrs ago & I always asked about them. Those 2 always kept me laughing. I hope you know everybody in that area knew & loved Vern. He always had a wave & smile for us!
