Zella was born May 11, 1928 in Placerville, where she lived all her life. She met her husband, Ray A. Miller, at El Dorado High School, from which she graduated in 1946. Zella and Ray were married July 20, 1947 and spent 49 happy years together before his death in 1996.
Zella is survived by her four children, Bob, Chris, Donna, and Pete, as well as eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly.
Zella served the public from 1964 to 1977 as the El Dorado County Chief Elections Clerk. She supported veterans and their families as a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also served hungry off-roading enthusiasts for over 30 years as a member of the Jeepers Jamboree Cook Crew. In 1994, Zella and Ray were named Volunteers of the Year by the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce in recognition of the many years they spent installing and programming emergency response systems for seniors on behalf of the Marshal Hospital Foundation.
A friend to everyone she met, Zella will be remembered for the things she loved: Keeping precious family memories alive through genealogies, pictures, heirlooms, and stories; tending to her garden (including the grapevine from which every grandchild remembers plucking grapes in the Summer); and baking her famous persimmon cookies (which will also be remembered, and missed, by every grandchild).
Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Gold Country Assisted Living Center, and especially to Jessie and Hannah.
At her request, no services will be held. Condolences can be shared at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/placerville-ca/zella-
