Anna Partenio

Anna is survived by her son David Partenio, his wife Marie from Syosset, NY; and her daughter Annalisa Grossfeld, her husband John from Plainview, NY; her granddaughter Ashleigh Grossfeld-McCartney, and her husband Danny from East Northport, NY, her granddaughter Arianna Grossfeld from Plainview, NY, her granddaughter Anastasia Grossfeld from plainview, NY; her great grandchild Jace McCartney and her great grandchild Audrina McCartney from East Northport; her sister Francesca Carbone from Scilla Reggio Calabria, Italy. Nephew Paolo Carbone his wife and 4 children of Scilla Reggio Calabria, Italy, along with 12 other loving nieces and nephews in her home country in Italy.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband Edward P. Partenio.

A visitation for Anna will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, 655 Old Country Rd, Plainview, New York 11803. A visitation will occur Friday, January 6, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 655 Old Country Rd, Plainview, New York 11803. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy RC Church, 500 S Oyster Bay Rd, Hicksville, New York 11801. An entombment will occur Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Garden Mausoleums, 2030 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, New York 11739.

Tribute to my mom

Anna Partenio

My mom was born in Scilla Italy to Paolo Quirino and Giovanna Bellantoni on Dec 17, 1932. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt , mother, grandmother and great grandmother . Her given name was Annunziata Anna Alba Quirino. To her Italian family and friends she was affectionately known as “Tita” or “ Zia Tita” .

Mom and dad met in Meina Italy, when dad traveled to visit his cousins . It was love at first site for my dad, and they were married for 43 beautiful years. When mom came to the US in 1960 to start her new life with my dad , her beloved Edward, her “Chief” , she legally became Anna. This is how she was known to her new American family and friends.

To me she was and will always be “Mommy”, “Ma” , and her nickname “Moo” . When I too became a mother , she affectionately became “ Nonna” to her beautiful granddaughters and then to her great grandchildren.

No matter what name you knew her by , my mother was beloved by many . Her life was centered around family and friends. Her grandchildren were everything to her , and she looked forward to the weddings and the babies , as she knew her life would continue through the growing family. She herself was one of six children , and she did always miss the hustle and bustle of the larger extended family she left behind in Scilla Italy.

Mom loved to socialize and had a unique talent for making new friends , even well into her later years of life. Everywhere mom went, she quickly captivated those around her and was ready to strike up a conversation. She would even offer to make you a plate of pasta if you came to visit her at her home. Ironically though, my Italian mother didn’t enjoy cooking , she never baked and she didn’t sew clothes like many typical Italian Nonna’s . We often joked about this with her.

Mom preferred to join her friends for an afternoon cup of coffee accompanied by a cookie or a donut, and in her Brooklyn days, would often venture out when we returned from school, to visit our neighbors and catch up on the latest gossip.

Mom’s zest for life and strong independent personality fueled her to her core . She was always the life of the party , and was always scheming for the next round of festivities.

Mom enjoyed playing Italian card games and taught all of her granddaughters and grand son in law how to play Scopa , which was her absolute favorite. She enjoyed every opportunity to sit and play a few rounds, especially if she was winning.

In her later years , Mom loved her TV programs, and enjoyed feeding the wild birds in her backyard . She enjoyed catching up with family and friends by chatting on the phone and when possible, with in person visits.

Mom was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all of us. The many phone conversations, and her quirky way of telling us to “ make it nice “ , when we were doing something for her. Mom’s brutal honesty to tell us “ we looked pale , put on some lipstick”, or she didn’t like an outfit we had on . That’s was her, and we loved her , and we’ll truly miss those moments very much.

I know she’s with my dad now , as well as her parents, siblings , extended family and friends. I am sure she’s already scheming up the next party to celebrate the big reunion, in God’s kingdom, with the Angels and Saints at her side.
