James Thomas Polito, affectionately known as “Tommy,” sadly passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of friendship, music, patriotism, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Tommy was the beloved son of the late Dorothy and James Polito. He was a special person who touched the lives of many through his genuine spirit, his love of life, and the friendships he formed along the way. A great friend and a truly stand-out guy, Tommy had a way of making a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered with great affection by the many people whose lives he enriched and whose hearts he touched.
Music was one of Tommy’s greatest joys and an important part of who he was. Through his band, “Tom Polito and Friends,” Tommy found happiness in sharing his musical talent with others, he played for the Senior Pops Orchestra performing doo-wop, and his band was part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Whether performing alongside his fellow band members or entertaining an audience, he brought his love and passion for music to every performance. For Tommy, music was more than a pastime; it was a way to connect with people, create lasting memories, and share something meaningful with those around him. The joy he found in playing music, the friendships formed through his band, and the memories created through his performances will remain a treasured part of his legacy.
Later in life, Tommy found another meaningful way to dedicate himself to something he deeply loved: his country. He proudly joined the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he continued to share his love of music playing in the Coast Guard Flotilla 014-13-09, but he also played a key role volunteering his time to assist active members of the Coast Guard and support their important mission of keeping our nation’s waterways safe. Tommy was a true patriot whose love for his country was reflected in his willingness to serve and give of himself. His commitment to volunteering demonstrated his sense of duty, generosity, and desire to make a difference. He gave his time in service to others, and that spirit of dedication will not be forgotten.
Tommy’s life was defined not only by the things he loved, but also by the friendships he built and the memories he leaves behind. He was a man who will be remembered for his love of music, his devotion to his country, and the special place he held in the lives of so many. Though his passing leaves a profound sadness, the memories of his performances, the laughter shared among friends, and the moments spent together will continue to bring comfort to those who mourn him.
Saying goodbye to someone as special as Tommy is never easy. His presence will be deeply missed, but the impact he made will live on through the people he knew, the friendships he treasured, the music he shared, and the service he so proudly gave. The love and memories he leaves behind are a lasting reminder that a life can continue to touch others long after its final chapter has been written.
May Tommy’s memory be eternal. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love of those who have gone before him, and may those who mourn his passing find comfort in the many wonderful memories he leaves behind. He will be sorely missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the thoughts and hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
