Al Choate

Born on July 16, 1939, in Port Arthur, Texas to his loving parents Harrie Choate and Hilda Meaux Choate. Al grew up in Bridge City, Texas and graduated from Orange City-Stark High School in 1957. Al spent 23 years of service with the United States Air Force as a decorated officer with a passion for serving his country and flying. Al travelled all over the world, but his greatest pleasure in life was being a husband and father. He loved spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Al met his wife, Gail, on a blind date and they celebrated 64 years of marriage together. Al enjoyed music, country dancing with his wife, western and war movies, and all sports. His favorite sport’s teams included the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, and the Texas Rangers. But Al’s Saturdays were often reserved to volunteer at First Presbyterian Church Plano, his home church of forty years. During his last days, when asked if he was ready to go and be with the Lord, Al replied “The Lord is already with me.”

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Harrie and Hilda, and his brother, Larry “Wayne.” He is survived by his spouse of 64 years, Linda Gail Choate; his children, Robert Choate Jr., Tonya Choate, and Kevin (wife Meredith) Choate; and grandchildren, Nichole (husband Bryan), Andrew, David (wife Madelyn), and Charlie; and two great grandchildren, Leeland and Juniper.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at First Presbyterian Church of Plano, located at 1500 Jupiter Road, Plano, TX.

A funeral service will be held in celebration of Al’s life, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 10:00am at The First Presbyterian Church Plano, located at 1500 Jupiter Road, Plano, TX.

Interment will follow immediately after the funeral service at 1:15pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cancer Center at Methodist Richardson Medical Center Foundation in Al’s honor.
