Amy Celeste Hursin

March 31, 1982 – September 16, 2026

Amy Celeste Hursin, 44, of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, following a courageous 35 ½-year battle with brain cancer.

Amy was born in Dallas, Texas, on March 31, 1982. She graduated from Plano East Senior High School and later worked in the Payroll Department at Cinemark National Headquarters in Plano.

Throughout her life, Amy touched many people through her determination, kindness, and joyful spirit. She was a member of Girl Scouts Plano, the Special Olympics Swim Team, and the Sign Choir at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. Amy especially loved crafts and swimming, finding happiness in the activities she enjoyed and in the people who shared them with her.

Amy is survived by her mother, Brenda Shaddox, and stepfather, Tom, of Plano; her father, Dan Hursin, and stepmother, Mary, of Dallas; and her brother, Grant Hursin, of Saudi Arabia.

She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Pat and David Burgess of Raleigh, North Carolina; Lisa Park of Springhill, Louisiana; Trish and Ronnie Bowen of Fort Worth, Texas; Janna Wood of Garrison; Robert Hursin of Lakeland, Florida; Millie Hursin of Swartz Creek, Michigan; Alonzo and Patty Hursin of Bay City, Michigan; and David and Nancy Hursin of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Amy is also survived by her stepsisters, Julie Shaddox of Dallas and Lauren Shaddox of Milford, Michigan; numerous cousins, including her beloved cousin Katie Wood Rogers of Hawkins; and many other family members and friends who followed her journey through life and loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her uncles, Lynn Wood of Garrison and Scott Park of Springhill, Louisiana, and her aunt, Karen Hursin of Lakeland, Florida.

Amy's life was marked by extraordinary determination, perseverance, generosity, and a gentle spirit. Through 35½ years of illness, she continued to participate in the activities she loved and to bring joy to those around her. Amy was always ready to lend a hand, often asking, “How can I help?” She generously gave not only to others, but also of her time, making a difference in the lives of those around her through her kindness, compassion, and willingness to serve. Her caring heart and charitable spirit were a beautiful reflection of the person she was. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to Association of Independent Living (A.F.I.L.), a group home that cares for special-needs young adults, where Amy lived for twelve years, located at 2826 Storey Lane, Dallas, Texas 75220.

Amy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
