

Barbara Jean Ferguson Austin was born to Johnnie Ferguson and Allie Faye Robinson Ferguson on 8/28/1939 in Dumas, Texas and passed to her eternal reward on 11/06/2025. She was 86 years old. She was married to Gene Austin, her husband, on 06/04/1963. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene and son Michael (Mike). She had 3 children Glen, Mike, and Karen who loved and adored her. She is survived by her sister Kathy Thompson and husband Jack, Glen Austin and his wife Tina, Karen Austin, and her 5 grandchildren James, Amy, Colby, John, and Cameron.
Barbara was a lively and friendly personality, who valued hard work, business, and sports. She participated in work activities from the 1970’s from bookkeeping, to managing finances for a Mexican food franchisee. She sold real estate in the 1970’s and in the 2000’s in Longview and Frisco.
Barbara was a key part of whatever church she was a part of her, with her family heritage as a Nazarene, changing to the Methodist denomination when she married her husband Gene. Both would volunteer, be on committees, and later in life, Barbara even worked as an accountant for the church First United Methodist Church in The Colony. She led Sunday Schools and Bible Studies and was the leader of the prayer chain in her church.
Barbara was a devoted parent and grandparent, raising 3 children to adulthood, and caring for and loving 5 grandchildren. She loved taking her grandkids to the Boy Scout Park and feeding the ducks. She bonded with her grandkids through sports as well.
Sunday afternoon was reserved for football, a passion passed down from her father, who was the co-captain of the Perryton Rangers football team in High School. Barbara also loved golf and basketball, enjoying watching both with her grandchildren.
Barbara loved music and art, pouring her creativity in painting and playing church music on the piano and organ. She was in 2 quilting clubs in The Colony, and active in the Senior Center.
After an extended battle with heart disease, Barbara passed into the loving arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ on November 6, 2025.
Her services will be at The Colony United Methodist Church on Blair Oaks, December 21st at 3pm with a reception to follow.
