Clayborn Carlos Guin Jr.

Bud was born in Jasper, Alabama, and spent the greater part of his life in Dallas, Texas. A gifted guitarist, composer, and musician, music was not simply Bud’s profession—it was a defining part of who he was.

Over the course of a long musical career, Bud became part of the rich community of musicians and artists that made Dallas their home. His talents as a guitarist and composer took him into recording studios and onto projects spanning many styles of music. His work appeared on recordings, television productions, films, and original compositions, and he collaborated with many accomplished musicians throughout his career. His music reached audiences in ways they may never have realized, leaving behind a body of work that will continue to be heard long after his passing.

Bud was also unmistakably himself. He could be eccentric and unconventional, but he was generous toward his children and cared deeply for his family. He was the father of Matthew and Elle and the proud grandfather of Evette, Daschl, Mina, and Cooper, who knew him simply and affectionately as “Poppy.” He shared more than 30 years of marriage with Emily, with whom he raised their family and shared a significant part of his life.

Bud was preceded in death by his mother, Austella, and his sister, Carol.

For those who knew Bud, there is something especially fitting about knowing that a part of him remains in the music he made. Recordings can be played again, songs rediscovered, and a

familiar guitar can bring back a time, a place, or a memory. But for his family, his legacy is larger than anything captured on a recording. It lives in the people who knew him as a father and as

Poppy, in the stories they will continue to tell, and in the generations of his family who carry a part of him with them.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
