Daniel Franklin Klimpel II
October 1, 1941 – December 18, 2020
Daniel Franklin Klimpel II (Dan) was born on October 1, 1941 in Seattle, Washington to Daniel Franklin Klimpel and Elma Pearl Hulberg Klimpel.
He passed away on December 18, 2020 in Denton, Texas from Covid-19. His mother died in 1954, and his father married Irene Embry. In 1957, the family – including his siblings David Klimpel and Susan (Klimpel) Caudill – moved to Dallas, Texas.
Dan graduated from Samuell High School in 1959. He married Sue Holland, and they had four children. Dan became a minister in the United Methodist Church and received his Master of Divinity from SMU in 1970.
In 1974, Dan left the ministry and pursued a career in pharmaceutical sales. He married Norita McGregor in 1975. They lived in Oregon, Colorado, Virginia, Georgia, and Pennsylvania before returning to Texas when Dan retired in 2001.
Dan was larger than life. He was an avid jogger, and he completed several marathons. He loved movies, books, and trivia, and he enjoyed playing and watching golf. One of his proudest moments was hitting a hole in one. He loved being surrounded by children, and he was able to spend lots of time with his children and grandchildren after he retired. Even as his health declined, Dan continued doing crossword puzzles, reading, and watching and playing along with “Jeopardy.”
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his son Mark. He is survived by his siblings, his wife Norita, and his children: Kathy Klimpel, Dan Klimpel III (wife Brenda and children Daniel IV and Mark), Robin Klimpel McKnight (husband Jeremy and children William and Sophia), Rob Nearn (wife Julie), Angela Klimpel (daughter Melissa Rwehumbiza), Laura Klimpel (partner Aaron Blunt and children Danielle and Micah), Ted Klimpel (daughter Salma), Amy Klimpel (children Isaiah, Josiah, and Olivia), Susan Klimpel (children Elijah, Alicia, Aidan, and Ashlynn), David Klimpel (daughter Jaida), Rachel Klimpel (son Xavier), Joseph Klimpel (son Zayden), Rebecca Klimpel (daughter Alana), Raymond Klimpel, Anthony Klimpel (wife Davida), and Danitra Klimpel.

I think what I remember most about Dan is how he was extraordinary at being a Dad! We brought our girls to your home, Angela, and they quickly fell in love with him....called him Dad, right on that first day. He accepted and welcomed them. There is someone else I know who said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me.” Well, now Jesus has called him home to his loved ones who went before him. We love you Angela, Melissa, and all you Klimpels. You are his legacy!
