

Dortha Philips was born on March 6, 1925, to Richard and Jennie Philips at Celina, Texas. Dortha had two brothers, Glen and Jim Bob, and one sister, Pearl Reneau. Dortha went to school at Alla Hubbard, near Celina, graduating as Valedictorian of her class in 1942. After attending IBM Business School in Dallas, she married Gene Hamilton of rural Collin County. They made their home in rural Collin County until they moved to Plano in 1952. Five children were born to this couple: Judy Wells (Keith), Nancy Hamilton, Vicky Hamilton, Diane Pruitt (Randy), and Tina Hamilton.
Dortha's husband, Gene, passed away February 4, 1969. Dortha was employed at the First National Bank for a short time before she went to work as Receptionist at the Plano City Hall. She married Al Dougal, a longtime friend and retired engineer, in October, 1990. Dortha retired from the City in 1988 after 18 years. She and Al moved to the country near Campbell, TX, where they resided for six years; then to Prosper, TX, for four years before moving back to Plano in 2003. They did extensive traveling throughout the Western United States, Canada, and Alaska during those years.
Dortha is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and sister. She is survived by her husband, five daughters, eight grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 AM on Saturday, January 19, at the First Baptist Church, 1300 East 15th St., in Plano. Visitation will be on Friday evening, 6 to 8 PM, at the Chapel of the First Baptist Church.
