

Fortney, Douglas Ray, age 78, of Dallas, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. He was born on April 25, 1936, in Central City, Kentucky, to the late Martin and Esther Fortney. Doug earned his BBA in Accounting from the University of North Texas in 1957. He then became a revenue agent while attending night law school at SMU. 10 years later he received his Masters in Law. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Richardson for over 30 years, where he was very active in the Sylvia DeLoach Sunday School Class. Doug was proud of his membership in the Dallas Bar, Texas Bar, and a 32nd degree Mason, of which he was a member for over 50 years. Over the years, Doug was an advocate for special need individuals. He and his wife, Udene, and their daughter led Circle of Friends, a social group for special needs individuals, for 10 years. He was a lovable person with a great sense of humor. He is survived by his daughters, Eileen Fortney of Dallas and Pam Fortney of Plano; brother, Charles Martin Fortney of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister, Ramona Evelyn Fortney Martel of Clermont, Florida; sister-in-law, Glenda Jean James of Fallbrook, California; and a host of other family and friends. Doug is preceded by his loving wife of 54 years, Udene Walker Fortney. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 6-9 pm at Ted Dickey. Service will be on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 11:00 am at Ted Dickey in the chapel with interment to follow in Plano Mutual Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Doug’s honor may be made to the First Baptist Church in Richardson building fund at 1001 N Central Exp, Richardson, Texas 75080 and or the American Diabetes Foundation at http://www.diabetes.org/
