DOUGLAS RILEY SLOAN
March 8, 1939 – February 19, 2021
Douglas Riley Sloan was born in 1939 in Roseberg, Oregon, the oldest of Elden & Lorraine Sloan’s three children. The family settled in Hudson, Iowa where Doug met his future wife of sixty years, Janice Wrage. Doug served his country in the Air Force and was stationed at Masawa Air Force Base in Japan. After returning home, Doug married Jan and they started building a life together that would lead to four children, all living in Texas now. Doug started his career working for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then transferred to Plano, Texas in 1971 and retired in 2001. Doug spent many years involved in the development of the Plano Youth Soccer Association and the Labor Day Tournament. He was an avid bowler and golfer. In retirement, Doug and Jan worked for the Frisco Rough Riders as ushers and playground managers for 13 years. They also volunteered their time and efforts to Habitat for Humanity of Collin County. They opened their home to 18 exchange students who Doug treated as his own children. The former exchange students are still considered part of the family and visit as often as they can. Doug was a faithful servant to his church, Faith Lutheran in Plano. Doug leaves behind his wife and four children, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandson on the way. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to Habitat for Humanity of Collin County or the Doug Sloan Memorial GoFundMe.
