Ellen “Marie” Pettit was born April 7, 1932, to Edward and Gladys Hennigan in Healdton, Oklahoma. She married her husband of 72 years, Robert E. Pettit, on June 30, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas, and began life as a military spouse. She served alongside “Bob” for the remainder of his 20 years in the U.S. Air Force while rearing four daughters: Linda, Debra, Elizabeth, and Roberta. She was a homemaker to the nth degree. She welcomed countless people into her home with warmth and hospitality, frequently hosting epic holiday gatherings, birthday parties, and game nights. Over the years, she was a PTA volunteer, a Plano ISD mentor, a hospital volunteer, and often a chaperone on band or choir trips. In her senior adult years, Marie continued to serve others, even as she herself was served by the numerous healthcare providers she encountered during her struggles with severe chronic anemia and GI bleeding. She met some of her dearest friends as a result of those struggles, making her medical trials not only bearable, but fruitful.
Marie slipped peacefully from this world into true eternal life on Thursday, April 16, 2026, while surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Pettit; her parents, Ed and Gladys Hennigan; her siblings: Rose Mary Feudo, Tom Hennigan, Jack Hennigan, Jim Hennigan, Michaelene Winchester, and Gladys Hein; her daughter, Linda Bouchard; and her granddaughter, Kathleen Draper. Having lived 94 years, she also had to say good-bye to countless friends. During her waning days on earth, she expressed excitement about seeing them all again, as was her hope through faith in Jesus Christ.
Marie is survived by her children and their spouses: son-in-law, Mike Bouchard; Debbie Andrews (Bob), Beth Robertson (Ken), Robin Draper (John); her grandchildren and their spouses: Cian Bouchard (Genea), Candace Lounsbury (Adam), Corinne Bouchard (Drake Toney), Bobby Andrews, Charles Andrews, Ashley Cuellar (John), Marc Robertson (Lynn), Mara Gurnea (Jason), Erin Jones (Ben Roberts), and Michela Tindall (Kyle); 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.
