Ernestine E. Scott

Ernestine Vonzella Everett Scott, age 94, passed peacefully into heaven the morning of May 17, 2013 at Centennial Medical Center. She was born Ernestine Vonzella Shoulders in Bonham, Texas on March 21, 1919 to Ross and Willia Shoulders. She was raised by her grandmother in Kansas City, Missouri, who later adopted her and changed her name to Everett. She attended Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, and Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee where she graduated with a degree in education. On December 23, 1950, Ernestine married Jesse William Scott. They were married for 62 years. Out of that union, was born a son, Michael Anderson (deceased) and a daughter, Pamela Sue. She served as an elementary school teacher in the school systems of Tennessee. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1963, Ernestine continued to teach in the Kansas City, Missouri School District. She served as a teacher for a total of 30 years. She and Jesse both shared a fervent love for education. They retired from the Kansas City school district together and remained in the education system teaching continuing education to adults. Ernestine was a devoted wife and mother. Her vibrant, giving spirit caused her to be remembered by all who met her and made her a mother to many. Her faith in God was solid and secure, never wavering, even when facing difficult challenges. She loved all types of sports but she was an avid football fan. She was very creative, enjoyed crafts and loved working with her hands to make everything from hats and jewelry, to pillows and decorative wall hangings. Ernestine was full of life, a very special lady, who truly lived a life of love. She was sweet, giving, caring and fun-loving. Her smile brightened up any room. Mrs. Scott will be laid to rest with her husband at the Dallas - Fort Worth National Cemetery. The cemetery was dedicated by the Veterans Administration on May 12, 2000. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Sue Hardy, her grandchildren, Kimberly Alvarenga and Stephanie Scott and 4 great-grandchildren, Kayden Kearse, Matthew and Isaiah Alvarenga, Alecia Ngako and many other family members.
