
Born June 26, 1922, in Huntington, West Virginia, Fred attended public schools there and graduated high school in 1942. Following a six month employment with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC as a fingerprint technician and cryptographic clerk, Fred enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country from 1943-1946 as an encoder/decoder of military messages.
Fred responded to a call to Christian ministry by attending Barrington Bible College in Barrington, Rhode Island, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952. He pursued further training at Grace Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana, earning a second Bachelor of Arts degree in 1956. Fred moved his family to Fort Worth, Texas to attend Texas Christian University, where he earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1959. Because of his desire to minister to patients, Fred gained additional training from the Council for Clinical Training at the U.S. Public Health Hospital in Fort Worth.
During his career as a minister of the Gospel, Fred served as Youth Minister and Assistant Minister at Central Christian Church in Fort Worth from 1960 to 1963. Fred was then called to serve as Pastor of Central Christian Church in Sherman, Texas, and there he served September 1963 through December 1987. Not content to completely retire, Fred continued to serve various Christian churches throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area as interim minister between 1988 and 1996. Fred was appointed Minister Emeritus of Disciples Christian Church, Plano, Texas on June 12, 2016.
Fred enjoyed opportunities to serve his community in volunteer positions including Parent-Teacher leadership roles for six years in Sherman, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Texoma Regional Mental Health Mental Retardation Center 1974-1978, President of the Lake Texoma United Ministries 1986-87, and organizer and first president of Volunteer Chaplains Association at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman 1983-1987. Also, Fred served for eleven years as a volunteer parole officer in Sherman, and he was honored for his service by the State of Texas in 1980.
The hobbies Fred enjoyed include crossword puzzles and other word games, citizen band radio communication using the handle Heaven Helper, and teaching the Word of God. Fred led his last Bible study group on January 25, 2017.
Fred married Nancy Grace Koontz in Huntington, West Virginia on June 19, 1948, and they were blessed with sixty-eight years together. In addition to Nancy, Fred is survived by daughter Susan Hall (Jim) Yarbrough and son James Daniel (Paula) Hall. Surviving grandchildren are Kelly Yarbrough, Nicole Yarbrough, Andrew Yarbrough, Zachary (Kyler) Hall, Alysia (Frank) Rosas, Austin Hall, and six precious great grandchildren.
Burial will take place at Woodmere Cemetery in Huntington, West Virginia at 10:00 a.m. on February 28, 2017. Pastor Keith Wiebe, Jr. of Grace Gospel Church will officiate. To honor and celebrate the life of Fred Hall, a memorial service will be held at Disciples Christian Church in Plano on Sunday, March 19 at
3:00 p.m. Dr. Mark Berrier, Pastor of Disciples Christian Church, Sherman, and Rev. DeAnna Golsan, Pastor of Disciples Church, Plano, will officiate.
