Geraldine "Gerri" Holifield

On Friday, March 17, 2023, Geraldine Holifield passed away at the age of 89. Gerri Holifield was born on January 30, 1934, in Hagansport, TX to Jesse and Mahaska Coe. Gerri later moved to Dallas and started attending Peak and East Side Church of Christ, where she was introduced to Bill Holifield on the night of his baptism in 1955. They married later that year and had 65 wonderful years of marriage up till the death of Bill in January of 2021. Gerri is survived by her children Ron, Perry and his wife Teresa, and DeAnna and her spouse Mary, and sister-in-law, Geneva Jones. She was Meme or Meem to her four grandchildren, Lauren, Austin and his wife Hannah, Jessica, and Julianne, and to three great-grandchildren, Nora, Lily, and Jay. Gerri is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Holifield, her sisters, Hortense and Dorothy, and her brother, Lovice Coe. Gerri worked a few years as a 5th grade teacher while completing her master’s degree in school counseling. She then spent the rest of her working years blessing the lives of many children as a School Guidance Counselor in Plano ISD until her retirement in 1995. Gerri and Bill were active members of the Greenville Oaks Church of Christ. Gerri had the gift of making those around her feel the love of God through her words, actions, and generosity. Gerri and Bill were quick to open their home for guests or for Bible study groups, and by going wherever needed to visit those who might need encouragement and hope. Gerri has blessed many others over the years and has been blessed in return by loving and committed friends. She said more than once how moved she was by the flowers, phone calls, and especially the visits that were lavished on her as she bravely faced her transition. She would like those who have said such kind things about her to know that “everything people have said about her, she says the same about them, because they are living God’s word”. A celebration of life will be held at Greenville Oaks Church of Christ, 703 S Greenville Avenue, Allen, TX 75002, on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 10:00 am.
