Gloria Ann Brown-Helton, age 72, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2019. She was born in Portales, NM to George & Beulah Brown as the 7th of 9 children. She was a 1965 graduate of Portales High School and later attended Eastern New Mexico University. Following school, she moved to San Jose, CA and worked 17 years for the California Teachers Association before eventually moving back to Clovis, NM and beginning her 33-year marriage to Hal Helton. Gloria truly lived life to the fullest through her pleasures of family and friends, collecting antiques, traveling, and studying her faith. Gloria never met a stranger, never spoke ill of anyone, and had the uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. After moving to Fairview, TX in 2011 she loved remaining active with neighborhood block parties, book clubs, and the Tuesday night Bible studies. Gloria also enjoyed the performing arts, all music, accompanying her husband to Lions Club events, and even became an avid fan of the Allen Americans hockey team.
She is survived by her husband, Hal; daughter & son-in-law, Kymberly & Brent Hare of McKinney, TX; son, daughter-in-law & grandson, Kyle, Alicia & Justin Helton of Edwards AFB, CA; sisters Glinda Roberts of Clovis, NM, Gay Conlon of Hermosa Beach, CA & Gala White of Pueblo, CO; brothers Gilbert Brown of Gentry, AR, Gene Brown of Corte Madera, CA & Bill Brown of Las Cruces, NM; many more nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. She was preceded in death by both parents and her older brothers, Gordon & Gary Brown.
Services will be held December 31st at the Creekwood Methodist Church in Fairview, TX followed by a second service and final internment on January 2nd at the Llano Cemetery Mausoleum in Amarillo, TX. Rather than the usual flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gloria’s name to her favorite charity, “Vested Interest in K9s” at VIK9S.org
