Gregory Alec West

Gregory "Greg" Alec West, beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away on May 17, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. He was 65. Born on September 21, 1960, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas to Leo F. West and Marinelle Bailey, Greg grew up in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and graduated from Lyman High School in Longwood in 1978 before returning to Dallas to begin his life's work.

Hair was Greg's passion from the start. He began his career as a stylist at eighteen and never looked back, spending 46 devoted years building relationships with clients who became like family. He most recently called Era Salon in Dallas his professional home. He had a natural gift for making people feel beautiful and cared for, and his chair was a place people genuinely looked forward to.

Greg had a deep love of beauty - in design, in fashion, and in life. He took great pride in his appearance and delighted in decorating, shopping, and making every space around him a little more lovely. Since the 1980s he had cherished the coast of Maine, and he and Steve eventually made Ogunquit a second home, a place of peace and joy they returned to year after year.

Greg was preceded in death by his father, Leo F. West (1997), his hero, and his mother, Marinelle Bailey (2005). He is survived by his husband and devoted partner of 31 years, Steve Folse. Steve was Greg's steadfast companion, his greatest supporter, and the person who made their home - whether in Dallas or on the coast of Maine - a place of warmth, laughter, and love. Together they built a beautiful life, and Steve's devotion to Greg was evident in everything they shared. Greg is also survived by his brother, Lee West, and sister-in-law Bette West, and his niece, Vanessa Berg, and her husband, Chad Berg. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private ceremony to celebrate Greg's life will be held in Ogunquit, Maine, this summer. Those wishing to honor Greg's memory are invited to make a donation to the LGBT Center of Dallas or the Suicide & Crisis Prevention Center of Dallas.
