Guilhermina Schmidt Harres

Guilhermina was born in Bom Retiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and grew up in the small town of General Camara, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where she also met and married her husband Jose Carlos Harres.

She is survived by son Luiz (Charlie) Harres and wife Janice, daughters Victoria Harres Akers and Ana Maria Harres, grandchildren: David Lane Downs and wife Robin, Christopher Ryan Downs, Natalie Rae Harres, and Andrew Boyd Harres and wife Coyellen, along with step-grandchildren Tyler Akers and wife Kristen, Jihan Akers Wells and husband Michael.

In Brazil she leaves behind a large, loving family, including siblings: Glaci Schmidt, Glair Schmidt, Getulio Schmidt and wife Marli, Gladir Schmidt, Gloria Schmidt, Glacira Schmidt Bortoli, Gilca Schmidt, Francisco Schmidt and wife Maria Luiza, Jose Antonio Schmidt and wife Ivana, Osvaldo Schmidt and wife Rosi, and sister-in-law Nina Harres Tubino.

She is preceded in death by husband Jose Carlos Harres, father Osvaldo Schmidt, mother Maria da Conceição Schmidt, sister Gladis Schmidt, and son-in-law Merrideth Jeran Akers.

On September 24,1960 Gui married Jose and in the next few years gave birth to three children: Charlie, Vicky, and Ana to whom she was devoted. She came to the US with her husband and children at age 29 and lived in southern California for four years before moving to Texas and spending the rest of her life in Richardson and Plano. Gui held various jobs over the years and enjoyed working for one of the original Michael’s Design stores as Party Department Manager. A lifelong Catholic, she attended St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Plano for many years and prayed daily for peace and the wellbeing of her family.

Gui’s children and grandchildren were her pride and greatest joy and she was deeply loved by her family and will be missed greatly.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Dr., Plano, Texas 75074, on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
