He is preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Ann Meyer; his father, Carl Meyer; mother, Elda Bade Meyer; sister, Elsie; brother, Bob
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Harold was the fourth of six children who all inherited a strong sense of family and community. His life was marked by dedication, intelligence, and a loving nature that touched everyone he met.
Harold's formative years were spent at Franklin Township High School, where his talents shone brightly. He played in the band and excelled in athletics, lettering in football, basketball, and track. His leadership skills were evident early on as he served as president of both his junior and senior classes, graduating in 1952. Harold's thirst for knowledge led him to a trade school in Chicago, where he graduated with honors in the Radio TV course. His pursuit of education continued into the night as he worked towards a master's degree at Southern Methodist University, earning his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in June 1981.
Harold's sense of duty and country was strong, leading him to enlist in the Army Signal Corps. He specialized in radar repair and was later tasked with organizing radar repair in Germany, where he also instructed NATO personnel. His military service allowed him the opportunity to explore Europe, taking memorable trips to France, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, and Norway. Harold was honorably discharged from the military in December 1957, and he soon embarked on further academic pursuits, enrolling in electrical engineering at Purdue University. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering in June 1961.
Professionally, Harold's career was as distinguished as his academic record. He began at Western Electric's Missile Defense Systems, contributing to the Nike Missile research project at the White Sands Missile Range. His expertise and dedication led him to Continental Electronics Mfg. Co. in Dallas, Texas, where he retired in 1993 after 31 years as a design engineer in electronic warfare systems.
After retirement, Harold's desire to give back to his community became a focal point. He dedicated countless hours to volunteer work and became the go-to handyman in his neighborhood in Plano, Texas. His ability to fix and improve things around him was just one of the many ways he expressed his caring and helpful nature.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
