Helen Nolley Goolsbee passed peacefully in her home on August 14, 2017. She was 87 years old.

Helen is survived by her children, David Goolsbee (Vicki) of Clear Lake, CA, Jim Goolsbee (Jane Ann) of Arlington, TX, Ruth Grannemann (Rick) of Fort Worth, TX and Naomi Goolsbee of Plano, TX; her grandchildren, Shannon Goolsbee, Aleisha Boyd, Christy Bagley, Zach Goolsbee and Tessa Wilkins; her great-grandchildren Robby, Morgan, Nolan, Sebastian and Hunter; her siblings, Evileen Keels, Frazier Nolley, Drusilla Rabb, Larie Stewart, Albert E. Nolley, and Veda Little. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marion C. Goolsbee; her parents, Albert M. and Mary E. Nolley; and her sisters, Dorothy Covington and Addie Leomie Nolley.

Helen was born on March 5, 1930 to Albert M. and Mary Ella Nolley along with her older twin sister, Evileen. Helen was the third of nine siblings. She graduated from Rusk High School in 1948 and she married Marion Goolsbee in 1949 in Rusk, Texas. After Marion’s graduation from college in 1950 they moved to Grand Prairie, Texas and began raising their family. In 1960 they moved to Plano, Texas and became active members in First Baptist Church of Plano. She started working at Texas Instruments in 1968 as an assembler, advanced to the position of supervisor, then to technical writer writing assembly manuals.

Helen’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family- her four children and her large extended family. She also loved to travel, visiting at least 45 states and several countries. She sang in her church choir and played piano and dulcimer. She instilled a love of music in all her children. Her children remember her as a hardworking and patient woman and as a devoted wife and mother. Her grandchildren remember their travels together across the country, with lots of Dominos and Jokers, and their Christmas crafts making yarn ornaments. Everyone remembers her delicious pecan pies.

Two memorial services have been scheduled to celebrate her life. The first will be at 1:00 on Saturday, August 19th in the Chapel at First Baptist Church of Plano. The second will be at 11:00 on Saturday, September 2nd at First Baptist Church of Rusk. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her memory to Gideons, the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church of Plano or Rusk or a charity of your choice.
