

Lodessa (Brewer) Russom, age 88, of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Lodessa was born on November 13, 1925 in Wood County, in East Texas, to Clyde and Louella Brewer and spent her early life there. On September 30, 1943, she married her husband of 63 years, James Wallace Russom, Sr. Before moving to Garland, they spent time in Winnsboro, Texas, Florida and Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wallace Russom, Sr. and her daughter-in-law, Carol Russom, wife of her eldest son, James Wallace Russom, Jr.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Lodema Loveless and Joan Macaluso. Sons James Wallace Russom, Jr., Philip Wade Russom and wife Elisabeth, and Mark Joel Russom and wife Beth. One daughter, Coletha Jean Rasco and son-in-law Tom. Grandchildren, Jeff Rasco, Kristen (Rasco)Shiplett and husband Terry, David Russom, Natasha Latham, Amy (Russom)Neighbors and husband Zack, and Helena Strenger. Great Grandchildren, Nikolas Rasco, Alex Rasco, Mercedez Shiplett, Nathan Shiplett, Katie Neighbors, and Ellie Neighbors. Also step grandchildren, Robin Warfield, Melanie Robbins and John Warfield. Several step Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren. She will also be missed by many other loved ones, including, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She spent several years working for Decker Meats and then retired from TI after 22 years. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She always looked forward to the yearly family vacations of camping in tents, or sleeping in the back of a pickup truck and finally getting to go in style in a brand new truck and a brand new camper. Wallace pulled that camper all over Texas, the southwest, and all the way to Nigeria Falls. And they were always including their beloved pets. One trip with a big gray Weimaraner named Bing.
Lodessa enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading historical fiction, but most of all, painting. Portraits became her specialty. She will always be remembered for her kindness and enjoying all the activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was blessed to have a wonderful caregiver in her only daughter, Coletha.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2014, from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 10:00 am. Both will be at the Ted Dickey Funeral Home at 2128 18th Street, Plano, Texas. Burial will follow at the Plano Mutual Cemetery.
