Isaac Hinkle Blevins
July 21, 1942 – June 9, 2018
Isaac (Ike) Hinkle Blevins, 75, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018. He was born July 21, 1942, in Ada, Oklahoma. He completed his formal education in Ada and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from East Central University in 1964. He married Sandra Carol Baylis in August of that year. They moved to Richardson, Texas in 1965 and then to Murphy in 1973.
It was in an eighth-grade science club that Ike discovered ham radio -call sign K5JPY- which was an interest that remained with him throughout his life and was instrumental in his career choices. While completing his college education, he worked at KTEN, Ada’s local TV station as an audio engineer. The move to Richardson, Texas, resulted in employment with Collins’ Radio (later Rockwell Collins). After his employment with Collins, he owned his own two-way radio repair company where he installed and repaired communications systems for local police and fire departments. Later he joined Andrew Corporation where he worked until he retired in 1994 due to disability. Prior to retirement, he expanded his knowledge of electronics by building TVs, constructing TV and radio communication towers, repairing radios, and repairing and constructing ham radio equipment. After retirement, he was a regular attendee at Ham Con and the Texoma Ham Fest. Later in life he proudly displayed his call sign which had been changed to K5IKE on his license plate.
He used his interest and proficiency in ham radio to aid the community by joining The Collin County Storm Watchers and set up the radio communication system for the Volunteer Fire Department of Murphy, Texas, where he served as a volunteer fireman for over 30 years. His community service also included being an auxiliary policeman with the Richardson City Police Department.
Ike is survived by his wife, Sandy Blevins; son, Chris Blevins; daughters, Tracey Bruce and her husband Robert and Carol Fortney and her husband Thomas; and grandson, Christopher Behmardi. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Lewis.
