Hello, my name is Jennifer and I wanted to let Jacob’s parents know that I am so sorry to hear about Jacob’s passing. I went to school with Jacob in San Antonio and we drifted apart, but now that our 20 year H.S. reunion is coming up, he has been mentioned and is being missed and remembered by many. I hesitated to reach out, so late, but as a parent myself of two boys, I thought that I would want to know if one of my boys was being thought of. I met Jacob in first grade at Northwest Crossing as we were both in Mrs. Cruz’ class together. I was super shy and sensitive and I can honestly say, that even at the young age, Jacob was the sweetest boy. He called me Jenny. There are only two people who ever called me Jenny and he is one of them, so I never forgot that. Now that I know of his passing, it is all I can seem to think about. Although we knew each other from first grade to High School Graduation, we did not keep in touch and I will continue to regret that. He was such a staple student at Taft being one of our class officers and I remember him being very involved. I’m so saddened that this world did not have Jacob it in longer because I truly believe he was a sweet soul and I really don’t think I will ever meet anyone like him again. As his parents, please know you did a beautiful job raising Jacob, I can only pray my sons will show some of those same characteristics. I am so sorry for your loss. 

Dear Mary Lou- 

I can't even begin to imagine what you and Marty must be going through at this time. I do know my own pain and grief and wanted to tell you both that I am so sorry for your loss. During a time like this there are no words that can ultimately soothe the heart and mind; what I can offer however is my love and prayers. I'm sending these to you every day. 

Oh God did I love Jacob; he was an amazing man, boyfriend, best friend and son. To this day I have never met someone who could make me laugh as hard, and as often, as he did. His smile was filled with personality, love and compassion and could always take my breath away. You and Marty raised a wonderful man who was generous; kind; smart; talented; could be a bit stubborn & moody at times (haha); loving; outgoing and I really could go on and on. I am so lucky to have known Jacob, whether as a boyfriend or as an acquaintance long after our high school and college days. I wish I had been more persistent about staying in touch after college, my marriage and my divorce; life gets crazy and I know we went out separate ways - but I want you and Marty to know that he was, and is, always in my heart and will continue to occupy a very special place in my heart till the day I get to see him again. 

Not being able to say goodbye has been weighing heavily on my shoulders. I wish I had known just how serious the illness was and what little time he had left, I would have been there in a heart beat. But in many ways God has given me a wonderful blessing...I get to remember the 17-year-old Jacob; full of life, energy and happiness. In fact, I saw Jacob last night in my dreams. He had that gorgeous smile I love and he looked so handsome standing there in his Letterman jacket; the one he always let me borrow on a brisk San Antonio morning or a Friday night football game. In my dream he seemed happy and at peace. I am so blessed that God has given me that image and that lasting memory. 

I will not be able to make it to the funeral as I'm sure that is scheduled to take place in the next few days. However, I will be home for Christmas and would very much like to come see you and Marty - if you're up for a visitor. 

I'm keeping you and Marty in my thoughts and prayers, hoping that God will ease some of your pain as you go through this difficult time. I have my arms wrapped tight around you both and I know God does too. I'm glad that Jacob is no longer suffering, It's those who are left behind that bear the suffering. I'm getting through the day knowing that Jacob is looking down on us with that amazing smile and feeling more alive than ever.

My son, Adonis, and Jacob were in the Taft Band together. During my time as uniform chairman for the band I became very familiar with Jacob. Always a smile, very polite and respectful young man. Jacob stands out in my memory as being one of the happiest people I've ever met.  He and I dated briefly in high school, and I still have most of his notes and our homecoming picture.  Words are inadequate to express the sadness I feel, but please accept my most heartfelt sympathies.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jake worked for me at UNT as a student employee and he was wonderful. This news comes with real sadness and shock. He touched the lives of many people and we have many fond memories of him.
