

James Walter Childress was born on February 24, 1930 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Mack Zealous and Elizabeth Susan Childress. James attended the University of Corpus Christi where he received his Bachelors degree in Business Administration. James was a licensed minister and a faithful Southern Baptist. James served in the U.S. Navy, as well as being members of the Lions, Rotary, and Kiwanis Clubs. James’ passion for helping others really shined through in his line of work. He excelled at being a Hospital Administrator and even made the Who’s Who of American Hospital Administrators. When he was able to, James would love to go out and play a few rounds of golf.
James is pre-deceased by Joyce Marvine Childress (1929-1998), his wife of 39 years and mother of his 3 children. James is survived by his wife Phyllis Childress, as well as his sons Michael and wife Sherry, James Kevin and wife Rhonda, daughter Shari Lea and step-daughter Elaine. He is also survived by 7 grand-children, 2 great-grandchildren, several in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held for James at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 25 at Ted Dickey Funeral Home with visitation Wednesday night from 6-8. If you would like to make a donation in James’s name, please do so to Gentiva Hospice Foundation or to the Allen Food Bank.
