He was born on August 15, 1948 in Aurora, Colorado, the son of William Napier Gibb, and Margaret (Davis) Gibb. He graduated from Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs in 1966 and from Colorado State University in 1971. In 1974 he went to work for the Internal Revenue Service in Colorado Springs and in 1982 he was promoted and moved to Texas where he worked in the Metroplex until he retired in 2010.
Jim took great pride in his wife, children and grandchildren. He always made all of them feel so special. After retirement he was a voracious reader and especially loved conservative political books. He often could be found sitting out by the pool reading or listening to Rush Limbaugh and also the Texas Rangers. He loved decorating on Halloween, but especially for Christmas, when he would light up the neighborhood with all his decorations. He and Catherine loved entertaining family and friends and Jim was always a gracious host. He also planned some very special birthdays for his wife Catherine.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of almost 34 years, Catherine, his sons Erik Gibb of San Franciso, California, Michael and daughter-in-law Heather Gibb of McKinney, Texas, Matthew Gibb and son-in-law David Williams of Dallas, Texas, his grandson, Hayden Gibb (son of Michael), his step-grandchildren, Ciara, Caleb, Faith and Christian, his sister Elaine Gibb of Murphy, Texas and his sister-laws, Barbara Gibb of Aurora, Colorado, Liz Duncan of Brook Haven, Mississippi, as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William N. Gibb (Billy).
