James Anderson Merritt, born August 13, 1965 in McKinney, Texas, passed into the hands of the Lord, May 1, 2021 in Plano, Texas.

Jim attended the Plano Schools and graduated from Plano East Senior High School, class of 1983. He attended East Texas State College in Commerce, Texas where he received his B.A. Degree. Following his graduation, he taught at North Garland High School. He left teaching for a short period of time to study, and received his Master’s Degree from Amberton University. He joined Collin College where he taught ESL and was Program Director for over 20 years.

Jim was an endowed member of the Plano Masonic Lodge #768, Hella Shrine, Garland and Scottish Rite, Dallas Valley. He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Plano.

He loved his family and friends and had many interests in varied fields until his passing.

Jim is survived by his parents, Betty and Charles Merritt of Plano, his sister Cindy Madding of Plano; two daughters, Rachel Merritt of McKinney and Marisa Merritt of Artesia, New Mexico; grandson Beau Johnson of Artesia, New Mexico, Nephew Christopher Madding and wife Ashley Madding of Wylie, Niece Jackie Madding of Wylie; great nephews and niece, Colton and Levi Madding, Logan Moody, Jackson and Kylee Rains of Wylie and many cousins and friends.

So sorry for your loss. It was a pleasure to work with Jim over 20 years, seeing him grow from ESL instructor to program director, even the literal "voice" of Collin College announcing graduates one year and being the voice one heard when calling the college and being on hold.
