Jeanne E. Sofia
July 1, 1938 – August 11, 2019
Jeanne Elizabeth Sofia, 81, of Fairview, Texas passed away Sunday August 11, 2019 with her family by her side.
Jeanne was born to parents, Leo and Margaret Perkette, in Ft Ann, New York on July 10, 1938. She graduated from Ft Anne High School. After graduation she went on to work for General Electric.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and best friend, Samuel Charles Sofia. She is survived by her brother Bill Perkette, sisters Mary Ellen Davis and Sue Ruth, her son David Sofia (Theresa Kuhn), and her daughter Dianne Sofia Massei (Mark Massei). Jeanne was blessed with six grandchildren whom she adored: Erika Sofia, Justin Sofia, Samantha Massei, Mason Massei, Myles Massei and Christina Massei, and two beautiful great grandchildren: Sawyer and Ellie Sofia Street.
Jeanne had an incredible passion for life. She loved to travel, especially to Italy. Jeanne was also an avid reader of cheesy, romance novels and a talented cook who absolutely devoured cookbooks (she made the world’s best spaghetti and meatballs). She was a sports enthusiast and passed this love on to her children. She had a competitive spirit and loved to win, whether in golf, tennis, bowling or bridge. Jeanne shared her talents while coaching her daughter in softball and tennis. She loved her friends and always enjoyed entertaining. She was known for throwing great parties. She was an avid collector of antiques and enjoyed learning about her many beautiful “finds”. Jeanne was also a very talented pianist. While living in Chicago, she was a successful realtor with Coldwell Banker.
Jeanne was an amazing mother and grandmother who loved her family more than anything. She and Sam moved to Texas ten years ago to share more time with their younger grandchildren. While in Texas, Jeanne would become the most enthusiastic cheerleader for her grandsons and granddaughters as they pursued the sports they so loved. She could be found every Friday night, adorned in full regalia, cheering for her grandsons on the Allen Eagles football team, or tirelessly following her granddaughters on the golf course as they competed. Attending her grandchildren’s events brought her great joy and she was immensely proud of all of them. She always took care of those she loved and was incredibly generous with her children and grandchildren in countless ways.
Married to the love of her life for 59 years, Jeanne and Sam provided a home for their children full of life, love and beautiful memories. Her children, David and Dianne, are eternally grateful to be her children and will always love her more than life itself.
Funeral services will be held on August 24, 2019, 1 pm at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends immediately following at a private reception.
