Born in Smackover AR, May 15, 1926 to Jimmie O and Flo Hill, he spent the majority of his life in Texas. In his early years, he lived in Tyler, Texas. He often fished with his father, which he really did not like! He and his sister Lynn referred to the road to the lake as the “Hate Road”. Needless to say, his later life did not include fishing. He worked in his Father’s grocery store and excelled in school. Upon graduation he attended Texas A & M University for one year before enlisting in the Army. He served two years, 1 month and 26 days, which he could tell you verbatim up until he left us. While fighting in World War II, he earned two Bronze Stars, a Bronze Arrow, Good Conduct Medal and two Combat Infantry Badges. He seldom spoke of his time in the Army, therefore, as we researched for his burial in the VA Memorial Cemetery, we have been surprised by some of the facts we have found.
Jimmie returned back to Tyler after leaving the Army. While attending church events, he met the love of his life, Billie (Martin) Hill. They married in 1950 and moved to Austin where he attended the University of Texas. He earned his BBA in Accounting and earned membership in Beta Alpha Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma.
Shortly after graduation, Jimmie went to work in the accounting department of Sears and Roebuck. They were transferred to Longview, Texas where they lived for 18 years. Plano became their home in 1984. He spent his entire career with Sears and retired in 1988 as a Regional Controller.
Kind, soft-spoken, intelligent, honest and loving are the words we, his family, use to describe him. We always knew we were loved and that we could always depend on him for love, support and words of wisdom. He loved to watch movies, read, travel with his church and study investments. In retirement he worked many different part-time jobs but his real joy came from spending time investing and watching the stock market. He also had a love for model trains, but still NO FISHING!
Jimmie loved the Lord and set an example to his family and friends of a man that strived to walk the path God intended. He could often be seen sitting with Billie reading the Bible. He attended First Baptist Church of Plano and was active in his Sunday School Class.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Oliver Hill Sr and Flo Ansley Hill; one brother, Manley and wife, Lois. He is survived by his loving wife Billie (Martin); two sisters, Lynn Burk, Martha Johnson and husband Jerry; Daughter Joyce Dunn and husband Bill; Son Thomas Hill and wife Tanny. He was blessed with five Grandchildren, William Dunn and wife Tiffany, Rachel (Dunn) Rubio and husband Justin, Tommy Hill, Michael Dunn, Lucy (Hill) McGauvran and husband Ron. Two great granddaughters, Scarlett and Stella Rubio with a third great granddaughter, Penelope McGauvran, due in just a week.
