

Joel Padios Cequina, born on January 4, 1946, in Calinog Iloilo, Philippines and passed away on September 12, 2026. He was a devoted family man who everyone looked up to. The man who taught his family how to fight with determination and with high ethics, who lived the example of what family truly means and how important it is, and who taught his family that hard work always pays off.
Joel’s life is a beautiful journey which began in Hamburg, Germany in 1971 after he left the Philippines as a young 25-year-old. He worked at a hotel as cashier, then afterwards at the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank as Computer Operator. Throughout his life, his strong work ethic, kindness, skills and integrity was respected by his colleagues. In 1972, he quickly blossomed into a lifelong romance finding his one and only, Evelyn. They got married in 1974 and building a foundation of mutual support, deep friendship and enduring love. Wanting to show to his family what the world has to offer, he made the monumental journey to United States in 1985. He established a successful life and career. He worked as a bartender to provide for his family and showed them the importance of hard work. He continued to gain the respect from his colleagues and friends alike for his continuous show of integrity, strong work ethic and warm spirit. Beyond his career he loved working, fishing, traveling, dancing at all opportunities and going to casino but above all his greatest joy was his family.
Joel had a servant’s heart. He loved helping others and seeing them succeed in life. His love for his family was unparalleled and filled with success. His marriage of 52 years to Evelyn was a testament to his commitment and devotion. Leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication and cherished memories remains a holy light forever ❤️❤️❤️ His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joel is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Evelyn Cequina; his four children: Jacqueline Lucht and their spouse Patrick Lucht, Walter Cequina and their spouse Kristi Cequina, Joel Cequina, Jr and their spouse Susie Cequina, and Brian Cequina; and his nine beloved grandchildren: Madison Robinson, Jackson Cequina, Brooke Lucht, Kennedy Cequina, Emily Lucht, Jordan Cequina, Jillian Cequina, Lucas Lucht and Jessie Cequina. He is also survived by siblings: Geronimo Cequina Jr, Aida Cequina Huilar, Elizabeth Cequina Buhat, Esther Cequina and 20 nieces and nephews.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents Geronimo Cequina Sr and Jovita Padios Cequina, siblings: Nonito Cequina, Sonia Celeste, Elsa Cequina, Eliseo Cequina, and Benjamin Cequina.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 25th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th St, Plano, Texas 75074.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 27th beginning at 2 p.m. at Dallas Seventh Day Adventist, 4009 N. Central Expressway, Dallas, TX 75204
Following Funeral Services a procession will follow to Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 N. Central Expressway, Allen, TX 75013 for a short graveside service.
Following services the family would like to invite friends and extended family to a reception to celebrate Joel at the Eldorado Country Club, 2604 Country Club Dr, McKinney, TX 75072.
