OBITUARY

John McKillip Edmonds

John M. Edmonds, 58, died Thursday evening Oct. 24, 2013, at his home in Plano, Texas, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in 1955 to John and Patricia Edmonds in Junction City, Kansas.

John was a writer, editor and photographer. He was a journalist for newspapers in Kansas, Nebraska and Caracas, Venezuela. For the past 18 years he was a writer, editor and photographer at the corporate headquarters of Hunt Consolidated Inc., Dallas, Texas.

John delighted in being a loving and devoted husband and son, and in cherishing his children. A constant learner, he was inquisitive and made friends with conversation. John drew satisfaction from helping and serving others, including as a church usher, mentor to young writers and photographers, good neighbor and Boy Scout leader. His family learned from sharing his hobbies, which included computers, photography, camping, bicycle riding, bike-motorcycle-vehicle repair, hiking, reading, and enjoying music and movies. He is deeply missed by his family and many friends, who will forever feel his friendly, kind and gentle presence.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Allen, his son, John Edmonds, and his daughter, Sofia Edmonds, all of the home; his father, John Edmonds, rural Kensington, Kansas; mother-in-law, Gladys Allen, Plainville; sisters-in-law Mary Allen and husband, Todd Toman, Hill City, and Sr. Marcia Allen, Concordia, Kansas; brothers-in-law Michael Allen and wife, Paula, Douglas, Georgia, and John Allen and wife, June, Hays, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding John in death were his mother, Patricia Edmonds, and his grandmothers and grandfathers, John and Tillie, and Archie and Edna.

Service is 11:00am Friday, Nov. 8, at the First United Methodist Church, Plano, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to: Hunt Volunteers, Hunt Consolidated Inc., Attn. Susan George, Treasurer, 1900 N. Akard St., Dallas, TX 75201-2300; or to Boy Scout Troop 777, c/o Deacon Jim Petkovsek, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Road, Richardson, TX 75081.

Very sorry to hear of John's passing. 20 years ago he took me under his wings and showed me how to put a daily newspaper together. John was a patient, informative, generous and fair man who was often the voice of reason when things got a little crazy. I'll raise a glass in his memory tonight - Rest in Peace old friend, thank you for your kindness.

Photo Man he is to me. Organized "On My Own Time" always encouraging employee to join in. He woke up early to take pictures of the MS150 cycle riders. A very outgoing man with a big heart for those around him. He will be missed.

John,

We will miss you in the Boy Scout Troop. We had some great adventures together. It was great to have a friend like you around the campfire as we watched our sons grow up. Your conversations made the long drives to our backpacking trips seem a lot shorter.

I always appreciated the calm way you would work with the boys and share your outdoor skills with them. It was amazing how you could keep their attention with stories about back country hazards and camp cooking.

I know you will be watching over us as we award the Troop's first John Edmonds Teaching Award at our December Court of Honor. This award will go to a Boy Scout who during the preceding months has best demonstrated Scout Spirit through teaching other Scouts.

Your friend,

Hal
