Joseph Martin Guillot Jr., beloved husband, father, son, and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away on May 27, 2026, with his devoted wife, Laurie, by his side.
Joe was born in 1939 in Phoenix, Arizona, to Joseph Martin Guillot Sr. and Jenny Catharine Everett Guillot, who married in 1938 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. To be near his mother’s family, they returned to Galveston, Texas, where Joe grew up.
He went on to graduate from North Texas State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts. After college, Joe moved to Plano, Texas, where he began a long and accomplished career in engineering and electronics. He worked for Rockwell International for 20 years, contributing to significant technical developments and receiving two patents. His work included inventions related to ignition systems, atomic-bonding technology at Sandia, and transmitter components connected with Voice of America.
Joe was also a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying his own Cessna. In the summer of 1980, he underwent brain surgery for a brain aneurysm. Though the recovery took nearly two years, Joe faced the challenge with determination and courage. He reread his college textbooks to recover and rebuild his engineering knowledge, a testament to his brilliance, perseverance, and extraordinary resourcefulness.
Joe later brought his talents to Dallas Semiconductor, where he worked on semiconductor inventions, supervised assembly-line operations, and earned two patents related to machine functions in semiconductor assembly.
Joe was also a skilled ham radio operator and lifelong tinkerer. He loved repairing cars, radios, watches, and anything mechanical or electronic. With boxes full of tools and a gifted mind, he could fix almost anything. He continued learning throughout his life, maintaining a deep interest in satellites, electronics, and technology.
Joe had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by many. He was brilliant, faithful, generous, and deeply resourceful. He was a devoted husband to Laurie Adair Guillot, whom he married in Dallas, Texas, on April 8, 1995. Joe and Laurie were sealed for time and all eternity in the Dallas Texas Temple on December 26, 2001. Together, they enjoyed the fellowship of the Plano Roundrock Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Joe was father to Rebecca Catharine Guillot Patterson, born in 1967, and Joseph Martin Guillot III, born in 1968. He will be remembered always as a beloved son, father, husband, friend, and faithful saint. He will be dearly missed.
A funeral service will be held on June 3, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Roundrock Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2700 Roundrock Trail, Plano, Texas, followed by a reception dinner.
