She was born on August 12, 1951 to Charles Joseph Taylor and Patricia Joyce Taylor in DeRidder, LA. Judy grew up as pastor’s kid in Austwell, Palestine, and Cleburne, Texas. After graduating from Cleburne High School in 1969, Judy and her family moved to Richardson, TX in August to begin ministry at Crestview Baptist Church. After joining Richardson Heights Baptist Church in 1983, Judy was heavily involved in the single’s department where she met Roger Elkins. In July of 1987, Judy married Roger in Richardson, TX. They had two children that were the love of Judy’s life. Judy began working at Richardson Heights Baptist Church in January of 1990. While at The Heights she was involved with many different ministries and filled many different roles, her last one being Membership and Groups Assistant. In handling all of Membership, Judy knew most names and faces of Heights members. Judy had a way of making you feel like you belonged and that you were her favorite person. In her 31 years at The Heights, one of her favorite roles was loving and mentoring the administrative staff.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Patricia Taylor, her in-laws, Robert and Elizabeth Elkins, her sister-in-law, Lynda Taylor and niece, Amy Tuggle and great-nephew Brooks Roughton. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Roger Elkins; children: Katy Elkins of Plano, TX and Mathew (Erika) Elkins of Richardson, TX, siblings: Charles D. Taylor, Patricia (Charles) Tuggle, and Catherine Taylor; sister-in-law Prissy (Andy) Roughton; brother in-laws Rodney Elkins and Joseph Elkins; nieces and nephews: Matthew (Kimberly) Taylor, Joshua (Cristina) Taylor, Bethany (Steve) Hill, Tiffany (Chris) Gordon, Ryan (Jill) Tuggle, Andrea (Joe) Mitchell, Sara (Brandon) Steward, Drew (Jamie) Roughton, Meredith (Lauren) Elkins, Taylor (Maegan) Elkins, Aubrey (Kyle) Matthews; nineteen great-nieces and nephews with two on the way; and a host of aunts, uncles cousins, and other loved ones.
John 15:12 says “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” Anyone who crossed paths with Judy knew she lived out this verse daily because she knew exactly how much her Savior loved her.
