Julie McMurry

Julie Ann McMurrry, 41, peacefully passed away at New York Weill Cornell Hospital on July 1, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Julie was born in Dallas, TX, on December 11, 1984. She grew up with her family in Plano, TX, forming lifelong friendships and making fond memories.

Julie graduated with honors from Santa Monica College (CA) earning Associate Degrees of Applied Science in Fashion/Apparel Design and Fashion Merchandising. Passionate about her craft, she later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Fashion Design from New York’s acclaimed Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

Julie had a passion for fashion design and production with particular interests in Special Occasion, Bridal and Furs. In New York, Julie worked for leading high end couture houses including J. Mendel and Dennis Basso, and had advanced skills in tailoring, patternmaking and draping. She was excellent at sketching flats and sourcing fabrics and trims. She particularly enjoyed Fashion Week in New York where she often collaborated with designers, stylists, and productions teams, working backstage to expertly manage model lineups and wardrobe execution for top designer shows.

Julie lived with a keen eye for the unique and extraordinary. As a talented designer, she channeled her deep care for the environment into sourcing sustainable, natural fabrics. She was proudly developing her own women’s fashion line, freelancing, and gifting her considerable sewing talents to friends. Julie loved collaborating one-on-one with clients, turning personal connections into beautiful wearable art.

Beyond her creative work, Julie found her greatest happiness in the outdoors. She enjoyed gardening, swimming, snowboarding and sharing adventures. She treasured nothing more than fun with family and friends. An exceptional cook, Julie poured her creativity into crafting delicious meals to be enjoyed by all.

Her playful side and gentle heart were especially clear in her special bond with the love of her life – her cherished Bengal cat, Oskar. Showing her trademark patience and humor, Julie even trained Oskar to sit, rollover and high-five, always with a treat in hand.

Julie was survived by her loving mother, Carol Bishop, stepdad, Kent Selander, father, Richard McMurry, sister, Krystle McMurry, maternal grandmother, Dee Bishop, and many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Gerda and Marvin McMurry, maternal grandfather, James Bishop, and close cousin, Benjamin Bishop.

A service to honor and celebrate Julie’s life will be held on September 26th, 11 am, at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th Street, Plano, TX 75074.
