June McKay Myers passed away Friday, July 11, 2025 in Plano, Texas. She was the beloved elder daughter of the late Dr. Charles Lloyd McKay and Mrs. Fana Ruth (Measell) McKay born in Pelahatchie, Mississippi, on July 14, 1931.
A graduate of Grand Canyon University and Vanderbilt University, she was a tireless advocate of education with her two children, her wider family, and in each community in which she resided. June was an elementary teacher in Nashville, Tennessee, in the 1960’s and 1970’s; later she was a Dean at Grand Canyon College (now University) where she was selected “Alumna of the Year” in 1978; and she was a tireless proponent of Bible education in churches where she was a member.
June met the love of her life in 1950 while playing the organ in church. On December 17, 1950, she and Ernest “Ernie” Boyd Myers were married in Pascagoula, Mississippi. This union took the couple to live in Nashville, Tennessee (in two different time spans); Phoenix, Arizona; Reno, Nevada; Leesburg, Mississippi; and Plano, Texas.
She was the mother of two children: Ernest B. Myers, Jr. (Joyce) and J. Kay Gregg (Tom); devoted to her four grandchildren: Shauna Smith (Scott), Ernest III, Robert (Bethany), and Casey King (Jason); and loving great grandmother to Ella Pearl, Cannon, Rose, and Amber. June was especially close to her younger sister, Ruth McKay Wood; they spoke by telephone almost every day often singing hymns together and playing word games.
While loss of eyesight and inability to walk plagued her in later years, June’s mind stayed sharp as she enthusiastically played word games and could quickly recall numerous telephone numbers and strings of numbers related to her chosen financial institutions.
Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ grew from her initial profession of faith as a child right through her final days as she always took the opportunity to share this bedrock faith with any and everyone who visited her. She loved to quote Scripture verses and sing hymns and songs of the Christian faith.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, a granddaughter (Catherine Myers), and her husband of 69 years. She is survived by two children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, her sister, two nieces and their spouses, two great nephews, and numerous cousins.
