Kenneth Clay Fawcus, III was born in Alice, Texas in 1940. He was the first of two children of Kenneth and Charlotte Fawcus. Kenneth graduated from Alice High School then attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. He continued his education, eventually receiving a Master’s Degree in Psychology.
Kenneth married Evelyn Duncan in 1964, and they moved to Falfurrias, Texas to begin their family. His first teaching job was as a band director at Falfurrias Junior High School. He moved the family to the Dallas area and began teaching for the Dallas Independent School District. His career in DISD included elementary, junior high and high school band director positions. His passion, however, was teaching elementary school band. He taught for more than 40 years before retiring. He loved teaching so much that he continued to work at the same elementary school as a substitute teacher after retirement until he became ill in December 2014. In addition to his job as a band director, Ken was a choir director at St. John’s United Methodist Church and at Church of the Resurrection.
Kenneth’s greatest passion was his family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Any conversation with him would eventually lead to a little bit of bragging on his family. He never missed a soccer game, play, dance recital or school event for his grandchildren. His family always knew that they were loved by him.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Evelyn Fawcus, his daughter and son-in law Jennifer and Jeff Martin, his son and daughter in law, James and Myra Fawcus, his 6 grandchildren, Ashley and Josh Martin and Sarah, Christian, Stewart, and Nigel Fawcus. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Martha Ann Jones and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29 at 7:00 pm at San Francisco de Asis (formerly Church of the Resurrection, 11540 Ferguson Road, Dallas, TX).
