

Ladislaus (“Lad”) Kalis, of Plano, Texas, died on June 24, 2011 of natural causes at the age of 89. He was born on February 20, 1922 in Jacobs Creek, Pennsylvania to John and Pauline Kalisz. John, was an immigrant from Poland and Pauline was an immigrant from Czechoslovakia. Like many immigrants from Poland, John was employed in the coal mines of Pennsylvania.
A veteran of WWII, Lad received an Honorable Discharge in 1946 as a Technician, Fourth Grade. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and WWII Victory Ribbon. He returned from his service commitment, obtained his GED, and attended St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Business, he attended Temple University, where he obtained his Masters’ Degree in Accounting. He began his career as an accountant for U.S. Steel at its Fairless Hills complex, while living in Levittown, Pennsylvania. He later continued his career in management with U.S. Steel in Lorain, Ohio, retiring after a lifetime commitment in management of one of the largest steel manufacturing complexes in the country, which at its height, employed over 10,000 employees.
Lad was married to Margaret Jean (“Jean”) for 64 years. Together they had 6 children, David (Pat) of Rochester, Michigan, Mark, Chris (Karen) and Mary Jean (Duke) of Plano, Texas, John (Cindy) of Granville, Ohio and Suzanne (Brian) of Seattle, Washington. Lad and Jean have 15 grandchildren.
Lad and Jean were very active in the community of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Lorain, Ohio for over 40 years. Together they supported the Holy Name Society and the weekly Bingo Program. Lad also served as a lector every Sunday. Lad was a devoted father and grandfather who lovingly supported his children through all facets of their lives, including parochial and college educations.
After moving to Plano, Texas in 2005, Lad and Jean, joined Prince of Peace Catholic Community and found peace and joy attending church and watching his grandchildren grow up.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Friends of Murray Ridge Center at 1091 Infirmary Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am Tuesday June 28, 2011 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Plano Tx.
