Lindy (Butch) Hempling, 72, of Garland, Texas passed away on Saturday January 26, 2019 peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born to his parents Lionel and Kress Hempling on November 5, 1946, in Troy Ohio. Lindy attended Hirschi High School of Wichita Falls, Texas and graduated with the Class of 1965. While in school, he was very passionate about football. If you had a chance to sit with him, for a second you will very quickly hear about his football days. After high school, he went on to study at Midwestern University and was a member of the fraternity Sigma Nu. Lindy went on to pursue a career in sales, from pharmaceutical, cars to real estate. He enjoyed years in retirement surrounded by his family. To Lindy, family was very important to him. To his grandchildren, he was known as “Pepaw”. He truly loved spending time with them making them smile, laugh, and most of all pulling pranks.

Lindy will always be remembered and known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Lindy is survived by his two sons, Gary Hempling, Shawn (Jana) Hempling and a daughter, Taylor Brown and step-daughters, Jennifer Lilly Sims and Sherri Lilly, his brothers Reid (Pauline) Miller, Randall (Barbara) Hempling, and Carlos, Marco and Gino Sametini as well as a host of nieces, nephews, seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Lindy was predeceased by his parents Lionel and Kress Hempling, his step-mother Louise A. Hempling and his brother Jordan.

The family insists that in honor of his memory that people donate in support of the American Heart Association and UT Southwestern Neurology Department, in lieu of sending flowers.

OH Lindy I was thinking today was your memorial. I am so sorry I missed it. Ive been planning to be there all week.

Lindy I met you when I sold you a car in 1973. I told you not to buy it because it wasnt any good. You came back when I went home. (You asked me when I got off). Then when I was off you bought the car and went on vacation. The car didnt even make it back to Dallas after a 500 mile trip. You called me on the way back and asked if I could get you the money back. I said yes! When you got back you bought the car I told you to buy from me. You bought every car from me the rest of the time I was in the car business. Life long friend I will miss you so much. Dick Dobbs

My deepest condolences to Lindy's entire family as I know you will miss him deeply. He and I were members of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Midwestern State and be came close friends. His wit and determination were some of his best attributes. He always kept us laughing. I read that he played pranks on his grand kids. This was Lindy. One was never safe from a prank or joke when he was around. This part of being grandfathers will live on long after we are gone. I have 2 grand daughters who are easy to prank. I learned from the best. My home is in New Jersey, but timing brought me to WIchita Falls this week. He must have had something to do with it. My flight from Minneapolis to Dallas was cancelled due to a brutal snow storm and below 0 degree temperatures. He must have had something to do with that, too. My one claim to fame was my ability to talk like Donald Duck which would always make him laugh. So he called me "Duck" and the rest of the fraternity followed suit. We will never be able to replace Lindy, but we all will have countless stories to allow his legacy to continue. Please accept my sincere thoughts and prayers as Lindy was a great inspiration to his brothers of Sigma Nu, He was a person on whom we could all depend no matter the situation. God bless Lindy and his entire family and may He give you peace.
