Lucille E. VanKirk

Lucy was born June 3, 1934, in Sandwich, Illinois to Mahlon P. Schoener and Elsie Herold Schoener. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. She was married for 52 years to Raymond E. VanKirk, who passed away in 2009.

They moved to Richardson in 1970 and never missed the cold Illinois winters. She was a homemaker and had worked in banking and as an election clerk. But her pride and joy was always her home, family and friends. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, playing cards and watching the Rangers and Mavericks games. She never missed an opportunity to walk in the neighborhood when the weather was good. She was a member of First United Methodist Church Richardson for many years and had served as a greeter until her health declined.

She is survived by daughters, Lisa Tanner and Kristi Lee and husband Michael; grandchildren, Laura Black and husband James; David Lee and wife Sofia, Brian Lee; and Jennifer Tidwell and husband Colin. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and their families.

Lucy will be dearly missed by her family and many, many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th Street, Plano, Texas. The committal service will immediately follow at Plano Mutual Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Richardson Helpers, First United Methodist Church Richardson, 503 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, TX 75080. They were a blessing to our mother for years after our father passed away.
