Margaret L. Wassom

Born on April 12, 1938 in Saltillo, Texas to Arthur and Sally (Rawlinson) Mitchell with a heart full of compassion and a spirit attuned to serving others. Margaret’s legacy will forever be woven into the lives she touched. She was a pillar of strength and wisdom, always ready with a comforting word and a fervent prayer. Her generosity knew no bounds, whether through a warm meal, a thoughtful gift, or the countless moments she offered her time to uplift those around her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 61 years, Jerry Wassom, and all her siblings of which she was 11th of 13. She is survived by her three children—Mitchell Wassom, Shanna Merritt, and Rhonda Burgess—whom she cherished deeply. She held a special place in her heart for her in-laws: Beth Wassom, Roy Merritt, and Richard Burgess, whom she adored as her own.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Audra Bayes, Stephen Merritt, Amanda Merritt, Bo Burgess, and Jenae Bosley. To her eleven great-grandchildren, she was not just a great-grandmother, but a great light—a source of unconditional love, laughter, and inspiration.

Though she has left this world, Margaret’s faith lives on in every prayer whispered, every act of kindness offered, and every heart she helped shape. Her memory will be cherished always, and her spirit will forever guide those who walk in her footsteps.

Visitation will be held from 3pm - 7pm Monday, July 21st at Meadows Baptist Church at 3001 Los Rios Blvd, Plano, Texas. Services will be at 10am Tuesday, July 22nd also at the church with graveside service following at Plano Mutual Cemetery.
