She was the wife of Joseph Kay Ward, sharing 59 years of marriage. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 13, 1933, she was the daughter of Malcolm Lee and Marian Anna Stonnell.
She was a devoted wife and mother, Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader, a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, a beloved cafeteria lady at Haggard Middle School in Plano Independent School District, and, later, a dedicated volunteer at Plano General Hospital. She never met a stranger and loved making others laugh, often at her own expense.
She had a knack of captivating an audience, whether her family, a small group of close friends or a theater of strangers by an impromptu call for a volunteer to come on stage, as happened so often when she and Joe would travel. She will be well remembered for her kindness, humor and love of life.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Kay Ward; daughters, Mary Karen Jacobs Hartzell, Kathleen Ann Jacobs-O’Bryan, and Marcia Kay Ward; son, Joseph Scott Ward; granddaughter, Jessica Marie Sanders; and sisters, Dolores Stonnell Worrell and Lois Stonnell Poseno. She is predeceased by her parents and her twin brother, Malcolm Lee Stonnell, Jr.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, January 11, 2023 from 11 AM - 12 PM, at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th St Plano, Texas 75074, where a funeral service will begin at 12 PM. Burial will ensue at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
