On Saturday, March 13, 2021, Marjory (Marj) Mae Tait Hamilton, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 97. Marj was born on November 3, 1923 in San Antonio, TX to Maybell and Samuel Tait. On January 14, 1942, she married Gerald Dean Hamilton and together they raised their son, George, and their daughter, Carol.
Marj was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Gerald Dean Hamilton, son George Hamilton, and her son-in-law Jim Streetly. She leaves behind 1 daughter, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, countless friends, and extended family.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Streetly, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Angelia Hemmer; Debbie Young (children Phoenix, Denver, and Maverick); Mark Hamilton (wife Christina and children Breana, Lauren, and Julia); James Streetly (son “JT” James Timothy); Sam Streetly (wife Laura, son Ethan).
Marj was a lifelong Texas resident. She loved her family, Texas Bluebonnets, and good barbeque with fried okra. Marj had a competitive streak, she loved playing card games and dominos. She taught her grandkids how to play spades and dominos during their summer visits. She told great stories and had a wonderful laugh that brightened the room. She enjoyed cooking meals and baking delicious desserts for her family and friends. Her famous Goulash was always in such great demand that she had to make extra pans and hide them!
Marj never gave into “casual wear” she was always polished and elegantly dressed in a pants suit with a broach for the occasion. She was an extremely classy lady, always showing proper composure in any situation. Manners were very important and she made sure to instill those in her family. She kept the tradition of hand written thank you cards for every single gift she received. She collected little music boxes that she displayed throughout her home.
She was fiercely independent, unique, outgoing, and loved her T-bone steak cooked well done. People were drawn to Marj’s outgoing personality. Before moving into assisted living she would play bridge and 42 with her friends on a weekly basis. A generous soul, she also gave freely of her time, volunteering at her church to help others in need.
Marj requested her family bury her ashes and plant a tree in her memory. We will honor her in this special way and keep her memory alive by playing card games and dominos with the next generation.
