Patrice Daley was born on April 14th, 1970 in Long Island, NY to John A. Daley and Phyllis Messina whom she is in Heaven with now. She left behind a step-mother Patricia Daley of Plano, Texas along with a sister, Marie Georgopulos of McKinney Texas who is married to Peter Georgopulos and a brother Daniel Daley of Plano, Texas. Also surviving Patrice is a niece, Jena Georgopulos who is 15 years of age and a nephew Leon John (LJ) Daley who is 17 years old.
Patrice graduated from Plano Senior High School and completed 2 years of higher education before continuing on in a career in accounts receivables. Sometime in her 30’s Patrice became very ill and later found out that she had an immune deficiency disease that affected her blood antigens resulting in a low immune system. She struggled with chronic infections that led to other health issues.
Patrice had the courage of a warrior and found hope in times when others would not. She cherished her charity work with the Texas Ferret Lover’s Rescue and fostered back to health many abandoned ferrets as well as assisting others in a loving transition. The ferrets brought joy to her life and I truly feel that they were God’s helpers and an answer to her prayers for help. They kept her spirits up and the care of them meant so much too her that they gave her strength. She went out of her way to help other ferret owners to care for their loved pets as well and was highly respected for her knowledge and ability to guide people in this way.
In her life Patrice sponsored many people through the Narcotics Anonymous program and was a proud recovering addict of over 15 years. Patrice had a big heart and would always do her best to help others when she could. She had a way of inspiring people especially on Facebook with funny posts and pictures that helped others to hope, dream and feel better about their lives.
Although she had her struggles with health, she always did her best to open her heart when she could and give back to others. She will be missed by many and although she lived a short life, she taught many through her courage to persevere, through her ability to surrender, through her compassion for ferrets and through her endless hope.
I dedicate this poem to her and to others that may find themselves ready to break free of their current life circumstances.
Oh beautiful caterpillar
When will you imagine your self anew?
Why are you stuck in this tiny white shell
Unable to fly
Is it warm in there?
Is there peace in your recreation?
Or is there pain?
Oh beautiful caterpillar tucked away and safe
Loved into transformation
Find the strength to shake free
From your white, fertile incubator
The struggle may be painful
But the cocoon can no longer hold your beauty.
With the courage and strength of a thousand warriors
And a shaking fury, crying "I will not be held back"
Crack your birthing chamber
And Shine Your Heart's Beauty into this world
Oh beautiful butterfly
How high will you fly?
How many heart's will you touch with your new beauty?
How many eyes will you grace?
How many flowers will you partake in and pollinate the world with?
The possibilities are endless
And so is your Beauty!
I see my sister touching this world in a whole new way and every time I see a butterfly I will think of her. Her transformation is one that we will all make but we can choose to make it now and to be our Beauty in the world NOW! She has taught me that nothing can hold back a butterfly, but only we can choose how and when to crack the cocoon and pollinate the world with our love, grace and joy. Her beloved sister Marie.
