Patricia Dabney Abbott

February 3, 1924June 12, 2013

Patricia Dabney Abbott, longtime Plano resident, went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2013. She was preceeded in death by Seth, her loving husband of 66 years, her son Phil, her sister Fay Dell Roberts, and her brother Linus Worth Dabney. She is survived by her son Tim, daughters Kelli Abbott and husband Bouchee, Jody Guest and husband Rick, and Marilyn Hunter and husband Harlan. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Joel, Jeff, Chris, Melissa, Heather, John David, Trevor, and Cameron, and 8 great-grandchildren, Donavan, Will, Henry, Noah, Marshall, Ruth, Jayden, and Mason. Patricia was born in Cisco, Texas on February 3, 1924 to Mittie Laura Hearne and A.G. Dabney. She moved a few years later to McKinney where she was living when she met her one true love, Seth James Abbott, Jr. She was a PBX operator in a hospital in McKinney and he was a wounded soldier. He courted her for 2 years and finally won her hand. They married May 19, 1946 in Jetmore, Kansas. They remained in McKinney until 1951 when they moved to Dallas with their two young daughters, Marilyn and Jody. In 1953 they moved to Plano where they lived until the present. While in Plano they welcomed two sons into the family--Philip Dabney and James Timothy. Pat was a doting wife and loving mother. Family came first and she loved her children unconditionally. When serving a meal she would serve Seth first then make sure every plate was filled and every glass full of tea before sitting down. Seth would say "sit down, Patsy" so often that her grandson Cameron thought it was part of the blessing! Pat was a wonderful cook--her lemon meringue pie was out-of-the-world and Seth thought she made the best cherry pie he ever ate. They were perfect for each other--she loved to cook and he loved to eat. If you came to her house you better bring an appetite because she insisted on feeding everyone who entered her home. She always wanted to make everyone comfortable and greeted her guests with a smile that lit up the room. She had a good sense of humor and a winning personality. She was a Christian and led her husband to the Lord. This meant more to him than anything else. She participated in church activities and was an example to all. She always kept her house immaculate as well as herself. She would dress to the nines and was particular about her hair. Oh, and she loved shoes as is evident by her closet floor to this day. For years she took elderly friends to church, the store and to doctor appointments, taking care of them when they were ill and bringing them food. When time wore her little body out her wonderful friends at Plano East Church of Christ did the same for her. We, as her family, are so grateful to these dear people for brightening her days with love, especially in the last year since our father died. We also want to thank her caregivers--Debbie, Jeannie, Pat, Catricia, Anna, Divine, Constance, and Christine who took such fantastic care of her and brought such warmth and comfort to us. A very special thank you to minister Kenny Gardner who Pat lovingly referred to as her "son". God bless you all!

To all Pat's loved ones, so sorry I could not be there to comfort you, but I do want you to know that somhow, spiritually I guess, I was there, for at the time of the service I believe Pat was sending me a message as the beautiful song came over the radio "Safe in the sheltering of Jesus" I felt so uplifted and pray for all of you also to be uplifted in knowing your precious Mother is Safe in those sheltering arms of Jesus.
Love, Sharlene North
