Ray was born on May 22, 1947, in Antigo, Wisconsin, to Louis and Evelyn Tautges. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army for three years and served in Vietnam. On July 24, 1976, he married Isela Guaderrama. Together, they built a strong and loving family.
Ray spent 23 years serving the City of Plano as a Fire and Emergency Vehicle Master Technician, a role that reflected both his exceptional mechanical ability and his commitment to supporting those who serve the community. Known for his skill and resourcefulness, Ray could fix anything and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
A man of deep faith, he was a member of The Christian Community of God’s Delight and attended Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church for nearly 50 years.
Ray loved traveling with his family, camping across the country, and visiting many national parks. After retiring, he and Isela continued their adventures in a fifth-wheel trailer, even driving it to Alaska with his sister and brother-in-law. He took great pride in having visited all 50 states.
Throughout his life, he exemplified a deep commitment to serving his country, his community, and most importantly, his family. He will be remembered as fearless, wise, strong, and deeply devoted to those he loved. Above all else, he was proud of his family and cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Isela; his children, Catherine Humphrey and husband Ian, Benjamin Tautges, Joseph Tautges and wife Michaella, Theresa Neves and husband Tyler, and Monica Goff and husband Charles; and his grandchildren Justin, Blake, Nicholas, Evan, Christopher, Layna, Travis, Gianna, Carmen, and Collin.
He is also survived by his sisters Theresa and Rita, and brothers Jerry and Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Evelyn Tautges, and his sister Elizabeth.
